In addition to their rewards, retirement and aging bring significant challenges. As a lawyer practicing in areas of estate planning and elder law for over 30 years, I have developed a broad base of knowledge about those challenges and how to meet them.
Over the course of my career, I have also taken a leadership role in many of the legal and policy initiatives that affect this area of law. I am keenly interested in educating both professionals and the public about these issues.
I am a licensed provider of mandatory continuing education courses for CPAs, certified life insurance underwriters, certified financial planners, social workers, and nursing home and assisted living facility administrators. I educate other attorneys and paralegals as a faculty member of the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Education. I am a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys as well as of the Elder Law Committees for both the Bergen County and New Jersey State Bar Association.
I have presented many free programs for the general public through the AARP and Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease support groups. I am also the former co-host of the 103.9 FM Juke Box Radio legal call-in show "Mind Your Legal Manners."
At my law firm, Michael A. Manna & Associates, I help my clients make sound decisions about issues such as:
- Elder law, including Medicaid planning, long-term care issues, nursing home placement, reverse mortgages, guardianships and conservatorships
- Estate planning, including wills, trusts, asset protection Link to Asset Protection, gifting advice, and estate tax planning
- Probate law, including estate administration, will contests and trust litigation
- Family law and divorce
The goals of my blog are to keep my readers up to date on the news in the areas of elder law, estate planning and probate, and to give them insight into the issues involved. I hope you find it helpful and informative. To ask a question or to discuss representation, please feel free to visit my Web site or contact me online.
